A CLEAN SWEEP FOR LUKE SPOONER OF SUNDRIDGE PARK WHO WINS THE KENT YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP
Luke Spooner of Sundridge Park Golf Club won the Kent Golf Union’sannual Youth Championship following a stunning four under par second round.
On Friday 15 August, Knole Park Golf Club once again hosted the County Youth Championship for men up to the age of 25. Knole Park is known for its excellent layout, beautiful views, herds of roaming deer and of course the dependable excellent condition of the golf course. It is pleasing to report that all aspects lived up to that well-deserved reputation.
The morning round was played in mixed conditions and second man off Freddie Price of Royal Blackheath ended the morning round of this 36 hole event with a round of 69, one under par. Freddie’s lunch time lead did not last for long as Joshua Bristow of Etchinghill Golf Club came in with a superb round of 67, three under par.
Conditions for the afternoon round were similar to those of the morning, with sunshine, showers and occasional gusting winds. Joshua Bristow slipped from being the lunch time leader to finish third on a total of 139, one under par. Freddie Price shot a consistent second 69 to finish in second place on 138. The elements did not present any problems for Luke Spooner who came in with a brilliant second round score of 66, four under par, which following his morning round of 71 meant he finished on 137, three under par to take the title.
Luke, playing off scratch, reinforced his success by also winning the nett prize. Second on count back in the nett prizes was James Austin-Rooth of Chart Hills playing off four handicap.
A great venue provided a great day’s golf and a worthy champion.
